2025 Texas Heroes Day special event at the Texas Heroes Museum
in the Fayette County Old Jail
Visit with Vietnam Donut Dolly Joyce Denke and see the video
“A Touch of Home.”
The Red Cross Donut Dollies earned their nickname in World War II, because they served boxes of donuts to the troops. Donut Dollies also served in Korea and Vietnam. They all had college degrees, and they gave up a year of their lives to fulfill their mission of bringing “A Touch of Home” to troops in a hostile environment.

Start the day at Monument Hill State Historic Site with the annual program to honor the Texans who were killed in the Dawson Massacre and the Black Bean Death Lottery. The Texas Heroes Museum opens at 10:00AM and closes at 4:00PM. The video will be shown multiple times between opening and closing in the old sheriff’s bedroom on the second floor. Seating is limited. For guaranteed admission, become a member of the Texas Heroes Museum.
